Ancy-le-Franc, Chateau de
Renaissance chateau
France’s first Classical Renaissance château, designed by the Italian architect Serlio around a splendid courtyard. Much of the interior decoration is by II Primataccio, who worked on Francois I’s Fontainebleau. Look for Francois I and Diane de Poitier represented in the mythological murals – the house was built for her brother-in-law. The vast kitchens are a highlight, lined with row upon row of copper pans. Out-buildings house temporary exhibitions and also a collection of highly polished vintage cars.
