Anderson Marsh Historic Park

10,000 years of human history

Archaeological finds at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park have revealed evidence of human settlement dating back 10,000 years. The area’s oldest inhabitants are believed to have been hunter-gatherer groups who predated the area’s better-known Porno Indians by some 5,000 years. Displays at the site document the ancient finds, though much of the park is a wildlife refuge, bestowing protection on the scores of bird species – bald eagles among them – which thrive on the marshlands that denote the southern reaches of Clear Lake.
