Barr
Wine Route village
See www.france-voyage.com. One of the least visited small villages along the Wine Route, Barr’s winding streets are full of tempting épiceries for picnic ingredients. There is also a jolly terracotta-coloured Hôtel de Ville adorned with a curlicue pediment, and a helpful tourist office On the road into town, the Musée de la Folie Marco Barr offers an insight into bourgeois Alsacien life of the 17th-19thC. The ‘folly’ bankrupted its builder, the local bailiff, in the 18thC, but has been carefully restored and filled with Alsacien furniture, pretty china and crystal chandeliers, as well as a thoughtfully-provided winstub in the cellar.
