Batemans Bay

Enchanting fishing settlement

90 km north of Narooma. An enchanting little fishing settlement on an inlet at the mouth of the Clyde River which becomes a thriving resort in summer. At the Birdland Sanctuary (open daily from 9.30 am – 4.30 pm, entry fee; www.birdlandanimalpark.com.au) you can see roos and roosters amongst the trees, cuddle a wombat, and even hold a snake – a great trip for little ones.

The beaches north of town are popular around sunset with skittish kangaroos, led on by the famous Krazy Kanga. (The locals insist that his legendary feats include a form of surfing.)
