Old barns might not be what you came to California to see but turn off Hwy-3 near the hamlet of Covington Mill and you’ll come to the restored Bowerman Barn – a 19th C example of the genre which has earned a place in the U.S.’s prestigious National Register of Historic Places for its hand-laid stone base and pine walls held in place by hand-forged square nails.
