A phoenix of a town, abandoned after a rebellion against Angevin lords but rebuilt in the 17thC. Base of the Carbonari, 19thC secret society which undermined papal power in the Risorgirnento. Overwhelmed by a landslide in 1885, the place was again abandoned and is now 5 km north-east of the pre sent-day village, marked Campomaggiore Vecchio on the map.
