Calabria’s northern outpost, anciently a staging-post on the Sybarites’ route to Etruria (see Italy Overall: 10). Aragonese castle (1490), Santa Maria’s church (1090) – eight marble panels on main piazza fountain tell its story. Great views from this church, but a stiff climb.
