Chateau de Cordes

Restored fortified manor house, gardens by Le Notre

Just north of Orcival along the valley, Château de Cordès (1.5 km via the D27) pokes its head above the trees. Restored in the 17thC, the 13th-15thC fortified manor house sports a fine collection of slate-hatted towers, elegantly furnished chambers and a small chapel. The formal gardens laid out behind high yew hedges were the work of Le Nôtre. The photo shows Orcival village.
