High point of the old military road through the Northern Apennines, 1,039 m, it marks the boundary between Tuscany and Emilia. The ascents north from Pontremoli and south from Berceto are steep with many hairpin bends but the road is magnificently engineered with broad verges where you can picnic and admire the view. The fast alternative, the A15 autostrada, goes through tunnels at this point.
