Death Valley driving

Precautions

Ensure that your car is serviced and carry around five gallons of spare fuel (there are only three petrol stations within Death Valley – at Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells and Scotty’s Castle) and a similar quantity of spare radiator water. Carry plenty of food and at least a gallon of drinking water per person per day. If your car breaks down, wait until another car passes and signal for assistance – do not leave your car. When driving, always keep to the marked roads. Useful desert touring accessories include a first-aid kit, a flashlight, and waterproof matches.
