It has watersports, excursion boats and boatyards but has fallen behind in the tourist race. An old castle built on Roman ruins has been turned into an army barracks. A few dilapidated churches are shabby curiosities of the fabled shore. In Santa Maria Maddalena is a Last Supper ascribed to Tiepolo. Many people pass through Desenzano, few of them stay. The monastery of Maguzzano, 3 km west on a barren hill, has dim frescos, vestiges of one-time opulence.
