Etretat
Popular small seaside resort
A popular small seaside resort, Etretat lies wedged between a pair of much-painted and photographed, but still impressive, limestone arches jutting out from the cliffs and into the sea. The town centre has some attractive oldeworlde buildings, such as the rebuilt covered market, Les Vieux Marché. Above the pebble shore, there are a couple of engaging beached boat-cum-sheds, and paths lead up to the cliffs: the Falaise d’Aval to the west, and Falaise d’Amont to the east. On top of the latter, the Musée Nungessor et Coli commemorates the two early aviators who disappeared on a transatlantic flight in 1927.
