Pick, if you can, a sunny day for the winding drive to this delightful little fortified village perched on a rock above the woods. Once a noted medieval stronghold, Flavigny’s former Benedictine abbey contains some interesting remains and an aniseed ball factory. The sweets come in pretty packets, useful as presents. Take a stroll through the picturesque streets and make a stop at the 13thC Eglise de Saint-Genest.
