Fonti del Clitunno

Ancient spring

East of the main road a thick clump of poplar, willow and cypress has failed to protect the spring of Clitunno (hymned by Carducci and Byron and memorably painted by the great 19thC landscape artist Corot) from shacks catering to visitors. The early Christian temple of Clitunno, of pagan origin, not quite so accessible to passing traffic, is 1 km north, across the river.
