Romans exploited the rich minerals of the area, Pisans built the town. Old town walls, castle, cathedral and some churches were rebuilt in the Aragonese Gothic style. Tourist highlight is the mineralogical museum. Tourism on the adjacent Costa Verde replaced the traditional mining economy and left Iglesias a typical market town. Buy picnic cheese and ham here.
