A charming small lake-side resort with excellent sports facilities nearby (see Corte Franca, this section). The centre is medieval, with alleys linking lively shops and restaurants. We recommend a visit to one of several enoteche, specialist wine bars. Historic sites include the 13thC Pieve di Sant Andrea with Romanesque bell-tower and the 16thC Carmagnola Castle, so carefully preserved you would think they built it yesterday. West of lseo lies the Torbiere Nature Reserve, habitat of herons, nightingales, wild duck and cuckoos, and numerous fish species.
