With small-town charms aplenty, little Lakeport sits on the western edge of Clear Lake and does a brisk summer business catering to the needs of the tens of thousands of visitors who arrive to spend their vacations on and around the water. Several 19thC buildings stand intact along Lakeport’s Main Street and one of them holds the Lake County Historical Museum (https://www.facebook.com/LCHSM/). If you need convincing of the importance of basketry in Native American culture or that the Pomo tribe, who settled around Clear Lake, were among the craft’s leading exponents, a viewing of the museum’s many excellent examples should be on your agenda.
