Los Olivos

Stage coach stop

On Hwy-154, 6 miles North of Santa Ynez. Mattei’s Tavern (http://www.matteistavern.com) makes much of its roots as a one-time stagecoach stop. The restaurant still occupies the two-story wooden building erected by local big-wig Felix Mattel in 1886. Just outside the village, at 5017 Zoca Station Road, the Firestone Vineyard (www.firestonewine.com) was the first Santa Ynez Valley winery to crush local grapes – and today it uses them to produce some notable wines.
