Mariposa Grove
Giant sequoia trees
A narrated tram ride takes you around the 2,000-year-old giant sequoia trees of Mariposa Grove, a source of tourist wonderment since the 1880s. Early in the 20thC, the ecologically-unsound founders of the hotel at Wawona hollowed out one of the trees to enable a road to pass through it. The Mariposa Grove Museum (https://www.yosemiteconservancy.org), housed in a log cabin, carries exhibits unravelling the fascinating natural history of the enormous trees – which are essential viewing if you’re not visiting the larger groves at Sequoia National Park
