Home / Australia / Key Places to Visit / Queensland: the North-Eastern (Capricorn) Coast / Masthead Islands

Masthead Islands

For Robinson Crusoes

70 km east of Gladstone. The Masthead Islands are very small, very remote, and only accessible by charter boat from Gladstone. Up to 50 campers are permitted, who must bring all supplies with them (though it’s possible to catch a few fish). A permit is essential – see www.nprsr.qld.gov.au. There is a resident population of shrieking terns and great diving off the reef. Strictly for dedicated Robinson Crusoes. Closed from time to time for regeneration.
