It is uphill all the way here from Palerma. Show-place of the Conca d’Oro (‘Golden Shell’) of orange groves girdling the Palermo basin. The cathedral is the finest Norman church in existence, with an amazingly florid cloister and a series of mosaics comparable only to those of Ravenna.
