Monte San Savino
Dignified small town in the Chianti hills
32 km south west of Arezzo (by road or branch railway). This small town sits on a balcony of the Chianti hills. It has dignity as well as serenity. Some churches, loggias and palaces are the work of the citizen Sansovino (1460-1529), pioneer of a graceful architectural style. Among them you find little country shops, trattorie and crafts workshops pursuing a range of traditional trades such as broom-making, birdcage-making and ceramic painting.
In a tiny sanctuary overlooking the autostrada sits the Madonna delle Vertighe, now known as the Virgin of the Motorways, protectress of all who travel fast by road. Her lantern was donated by the autostrada contractors.
