Home / Australia / Exploring locally / The Far North: Cape Tribulation, Cooktown and Cape York / Mossman

Mossman

In the sugar-cane region

On the coast, 90 km North of Cairns. Small sleepy town in the sugar-cane region. The only point of interest is the Mossman Gorge 4 km inland, which has some great swimming holes amongst the rapids. There’s also a 3.5-km ‘Aborigine’ walk which takes you through the rainforest past an Aborigine settlement. However you can also try some of the delicious local wines too at the Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery (www.shannonvalewine.com.au) AS$10 wine tasting, or free if you buy a bottle. Or you could play a quick round of golf for a reasonable price at the Mossman Golf Club +61 (070) 98 1570.
