Mount Isa

Lead mining centre

900 km west of Townsville. A vast sprawl of mining activity, which produces more lead than anywhere else in the world. Its gougings and burrowings are so extensive that they spread over more than 40,000 sq km. The locals reckon that this makes it the largest city in the world. Tokyo and Los Angeles please take note.
