Home / Italy / Exploring locally / Salentina (Puglia) - the 'Toe' / Nardo

Nardo

Ornamented churches, Baroque flourishes

Stop only if Lecce has whetted the appetite for ornamented churches and Baroque configurations. The best-looking church is San Domenico (16th-18thC). Round about Nardo are some masserie or fortified farmhouses (compare these with the mas of the Cevennes). This countryside was not always as peaceful and sleepy as it seems today.
