Ningaloo Reef

Two hundred species of coral

Runs in a broken string for 250 km along the west coast of North West Cape. This spectacular reef may be smaller and less famous than Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef, but it can be equally spectacular. The reef is said to contain 200 different species of coral, and its waters are home to more than twice as many species of fish – from glitter-dust shoals of minnows to turtles that don’t get made into soup, and sharks that don’t even bite. As near to virtual reality as you can get without donning the techno-gladiator’s helmet.

Divers should contact Exmouth Diving Centre, www.exmouthdiving.com.au. All diving equipment can be hired. For more information about the beaches see www.exmouth.wa.gov.au/beaches.aspx
