On Hwy-1, 11 miles South of Ventura. Un-fortuitously placed between the beautiful Central Coast and the multifarious charms of Los Angeles, Oxnard has several miles of beaches and a large marina, but little else to call its own. A beach-side stroll here does bring great views of Anacapa, the nearest of the Channel Islands, but less interesting are the souvenir shops and tourist-aimed restaurants of Oxnard’s Fisherman’s Wharf. However, its warm, Mediterranean climate makes it a good stop all year round for outdoor events, such as the California Strawberry Festival, of which they are very proud.
