Paimpol
Popular yachting and holiday centre
www.paimpol-goelo.com. The sombre setting for Breton author Pierre Loti’s 19thC novel Pêcheur d’lslande, Paimpol has been recast as a popular yachting and holiday centre these days. In the bad old days, the town’s fishing fleet would depart for six months at a time to trawl the Icelandic banks, but now they stick closer to home or harvest oysters.
The town centre is attractive and busy, and the modern hotels banished to the port area. There is a view of the bay from the Tour Kerroc’h, off the D789, the road to Pointe d’Arcouest, where boat trips depart for the lle de Bréhat.
