Penguin

Kitsch capital

On the coast, 30 km west of Devonport. The kitsch capital of Tasmania, with a 2-m-high penguin in the local park, and dustbins shaped as penguins lining the main street. (In the pub, they’ll tell you the unrepeatable story about the real penguin who came to town in search of a mate.) Penguin has three good beaches and a couple of nearby bird sanctuaries. At Penguin Point, you can see plenty of real penguins.
