Positano
Brightly-painted houses
Climbing on each others shoulders for a better view of the Gulf of Salerno, make Positano one of the most romantic-looking places on this coast. Santa Maria, the principal church, has the typical majolica dome. For its oleanders, bougainvillaea, magnolias, gladioli and sub-tropical greenery and for its impecunious painters and poets, this resort was the ‘poor man’s Capri’ – but it has raced ahead, establishing aquatic activities and letting in the snack bars and discos and is now one of the peninsula most popular holiday destinations.
