Bathing beaches line this gulf: Baia, once the private bathing station of Roman emperors, Marechiaro, Lido di Napoli, Bacoli and Miseno. Being only a few minutes from central Naples they rate highly for overcrowding and pollution. Posillipo on the headland, accessible by zigzag road or cable car, is more up-market with villas, flower-gardens and a busy night-life.
