Ribeauville
Another popular Wine Route stop
www.ribeauville-riquewihr.com. One of the most popular stops along the Wine Route, Ribeauvillé is a single main street flanked by a smattering of alleys. At the southern end of Grand’Rue, the restaurant Zum Pfifferhaus occupies a splendid old building where wandering minstrels used to gather. Halfway up the street, facing the Hôtel de Ville with its puffing boy fountain, the 14thC church has a coloured tile roof, and the 13thC Tour des Bouchers marks the entrance to the attractive Haute Ville where several old houses have been restored in exuberant shades of raspberry and bilberry. Dotted about the hillside above the village and its vineyards there is a trio of ruined châteaux: Girsberg, Haut-Ribeaupierre and Saint-Ulrich, accessible by the Route des Trols Châteaux. Though the harvest of Ribeauvillé’s famous white wine takes place later in the year, local vintners entertain visitors with a colourful annual Wine Festival on the third weekend of July.
