It is not among the Garda’s most fashionable towns but it is clean and neat and it has had its moment of history. After the collapse of Fascism in 1943 the Germans installed Mussolini here as dictator of the ignominious and short-lived Republic of Salò. It embarrasses the citizens slightly to be reminded of it.
