Saluzzo

Intact 15thC centre

The French Gothic church of San Giovanni houses the tomb of Ludovico II (see also Crissolo), one of a long line of marquesses who ruled independent Saluzzo through the Middle Ages. Another notable resident was Giambattista Bodoni, 18thC printer to the Duke of Mantua. This is a good-looking town with cobbled streets separating buildings of mellow brick. Casa Cavassa, a Renaissance palace, is beautifully preserved.
