A smug residential town enviously sited in the Marin hills, San Anselmo makes a pitch for the disposable income of San Franciscans by styling itself the ‘antiques capital of Northern California.’ An enormous number of antiques, book, and other speciality shops, are clustered together in its diminutive centre. While bargains are thin on the ground, browsing could easily fill half a day. A note of historical interest is provided by the San Francisco Theological Seminary, located above the town, where graduates of the Presbyterian Church have been trained since 1892.
