Semur-en-Auxois
14thC fortified town
www.tourisme-semur.com. A picturesque 14thC fortified town and capital of the Auxois region. There is a pleasant walk around the ramparts with views of the surrounding valley; then explore the closely packed streets, festooned with geranium pots, plus some quite interesting antique shops in a square near the Burgundian Gothic Eglise de Notre-Dame. The pillars of the church’s north door, on rue Notre-Dame, sport a couple of edible snails, while the 13th-15thC interior contains some fine stained glass and carvings.
