Home / Italy / Exploring locally / The far south - highlands of Calabria / Serra San Bruno

Serra San Bruno

Traditional craftwork

Forest setting under highland passes of the Stone Sword (1,335 m) and Panaro Cross (1,210 m) with 11thC ecclesiastical ruins under a 16thC Carthusian monastery (rebuilt: only the facade is authentic; admits men only). Decent houses with wrought-iron balconies give the town an aloof, graceful air. Statue of Saint Bruno kneels on its islet in the lake. Traditional craftwork in stone, iron and wood is offered to tourists.
