It was the birthplace of Ovid and despite its location it has been for centuries a commercial centre and marketplace, much livelier than Aquila. An excellent base for the Abruzzo National Park. Centre of confetti production – the coloured sugared almonds which go with baptismal and bridal ceremonies. Palazzo Tabassi is charming. An aqueduct, built in 1256, gives the town centre a look of its own.
