The Coorong National Park
High sand dunes
100 km south east of Adelaide. This 150-km-long national park marks the divide between the Murray River and the sea. The name comes from the Aborigine word for neck, and the main feature of the park is the Younghusband Peninsula with its high sand dunes. This is bordered by lagoons and salt pans, and the entire area is famous for its large number of pelicans. At the northern end is Lake Alexandrina, where the Murray River flows into the sea. The park itself has no facilities or accommodation, it does have but information area office, toilets, camping, caravan sites, picnic areas, swimming, canoeing, fishing, walking trails, bird watching, boating (www.environment.sa.gov.au/parks/Coorong_National_Park).
