The Shrine of Remembrance

A memorial with a view

The Shrine of Remembrance is a large columned memorial dominating a small hill in the Kings Domain, the large open space which runs east across the river from the city centre. The shrine is partly based on the design of the Parthenon of Ancient Greece. It is a moving tribute to the thousands of Victorians who lost their lives in the two world wars. There is a crypt showing regimental colours, and from the gallery there are fine views of the city.
