The shoreline stretches 30 km north of the Swan River mouth and has mile upon mile of sandy beaches. The nearest to Perth city centre is Cottesloe Beach, which can get fairly packed at weekends. The more northern beaches tend to be less crowded, and are popualr with surfers. The best of these is Scarboroiugh Beach, a surfers’ Mecca.
