Thousand Oaks
Stagecoach lore
On Hwy-101, 33 miles South of Ventura. A leafy, valley community named after the many oak trees that were discovered by the first settlers. It’s separated from Los Angeles by the Santa Monica Mountains, Thousand Oaks was a stop on the LA to Santa Barbara stagecoach route during the late 1800s. In a reconstructed Monterey-style building, the Stagecoach Inn Museum (http://www.stagecoachmuseum.org), 51 S. Ventura Park Road, records the early days of southern Californian long distance transportation – and assorted other historical interludes – with a large stack of diverse memorabilia.
