High on its hill above the placid Tiber, this was a sacred citadel dedicated to Mars. The best views are probably from Piazza Garibaldi. A compact cluster of domes, like Florence’s duomo in miniature, catches the eye on the outskirts of town. They are the church of Santa Maria della Conciliazione and are said to be the work of Bramante.
