Truckee
Formerly Coburn Station
On 1-80 and Hwy-267, 78 miles East of Sacramento/14 miles North of Lake Tahoe. It was originally called Coburn Station, however the name Truckee comes from a chief Native American of the Paiute tribe.
Workers on the transcontinental railway patronized the saloons and brothels of late-1800s Truckee, a town that only lost its reputation as a brash and boozy little place a few decades ago. Although it is within easy reach of busy Lake Tahoe, Truckee has an appealing time-locked quality instilled by its plethora of original wooden architecture and the community spirit of its inhabitants.
