Tryon Island
Remotest of the Capricorn Group
80 km north east of Gladstone. The smallest and remotest of the visited islands in the Capricorn Group, Tryon Island is just 6 hectares, and limited to campers – who are outnumbered 100 to one by the birds (mainly terns, shearwaters and noddies). No regular boats call here. The only access is by charter from Rosslyn Bay. A camping permit and absolute self-sufficiency in supplies and equipment are essential. Closed from time to time for regeneration. The photo shows an area of coral reef near the Capricorn Islands.
