Curious earth pillars
A hill walking centre in a valley below Monte Guglielmo (1,948 m). The 12thC church of San Giorgio has 16thC frescos on the outer walls. On the road from Marone you pass the Pyramids: curious earth pillars topped by granite slabs, some 30 m high, the result of selective erosion. Similar freaks of geology are found near Bolzano: see Soprabolzano.
