Protected parks
Off the coast 25 km north of Brisbane, at the north end of Moreton Bay. The island is just over 30 km long and joined to the mainland at its southern end by a bridge across the Pumicestone Passage. This end of the island is suffering from creeping development however it is now protected by Environmental, National and Marine Parks. Eighty six per cent of Bribie Island is covered within these parks, ensuring the natural beauty will remain. There are terrific surfing beaches along the island’s eastern side, and the north end is largely unspoiled and a favourite local fishing spot.
