Cote d’Or, La
The world-renowned vineyards
The stoney, east-facing slopes of the Côte d’Or stretch for some 60 km between Dijon in the north and Santenay. The region is divided into two main wine-growing areas: the Côte de Nuits, home of Gevrey-Chambertin, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges; and the southern Côte de Beaune, among whose most famous producers are Aloxe-Corton, Pommard, and the quality white wines of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
Along the wine route, numerous producers offer degustations as a prelude to buying, and Château de Clos-Vougeo offer tours www.closdevougeot.fr. Both the Dijon and Beaune tourist offices have details of bus tours, and suggestions for driving or cycling routes to welcoming châteaux.
