Embarcadero
Breezy walkway
Between the western edge of Downtown and the Gaslamp District, the breezy Embarcadero walkway winds along the edge of San Diego Bay, giving views of yachts sailing on the bay and – less frequently – allowing glimpses of naval vessels emerging from their bases on Coronado or Point Loma.
The busiest section of the Embarcadero is Seaport Village, a not particularly realistic recreation of a New England village, whose clapboard buildings hold tourist-aimed shops and restaurants. Among them, the Upstart Crow offers a promising combination of many shelves of books and magazines and several varieties of fresh coffee by the cup.
The Embarcadero also includes the Maritime Museum (https://sdmaritime.org), comprising three restored sailing vessels from the 19th and early 20thC. The ships can be boarded and explored although only very salty dogs are likely to find them of abiding interest. Of greater appeal is the adjacent departure point for the ferry to Coronado.
