Lady Musgrave Island
Top quality diving
40 km north west of Lady Elliot Island. Lady Musgrave Island can be reached by a ferry ride from Port Bundaberg or the Town of 1770 (www.lmcruises.com.au) – not a cheap journey at around A$190 at time of writing.
This tiny uninhabited island is less than 0.5 km from one end to the other, and is surrounded by a coral reef and a lagoon. It’s popular with passing yachts and campers. If you want to camp here, you’ll need to book ahead, as numbers are limited to 40 and restricted to the summer holiday (www.ladymusgraveisland.com). Also, be sure to bring everything you’ll need with you. There’s no mains sanitation, instead composting W.Cs.
As it’s so small, the island can become crowded at Christmas and Easter – it has some of the best diving you’ll find anywhere on the reef. Outside these peak times, it’s just as you’d expect on a remote little dot far out in the Pacific Ocean.
